Orange City considers changing city seal
Bellucci filed a similar lawsuit last year to strike down a Simi Valley ordinance that also required people convicted of sex crimes to post a sign. That law also banned them from putting up Halloween displays and outside lighting on Oct. 31. But the day before the Simi Valley law went into effect, federal court Judge Perry Anderson issued a temporary restraining order barring the city from enforcing the sign provision. The judge let stand provisions of the ordinance that keep sex offenders from turning on outside lights, decorating their homes and answering their doors to trick-or-treaters. Bellucci estimates there are about 100 registered sex offenders in Orange. The Megan's Law online directory lists 84.

Dates announced for Orlando City stadium votes
All you have to do is look for the house with the sign. Instead of protecting the residents of the city of Orange, this ordinance harms hundreds of citizens in that city, said Frank Lindsay, an RSOL board member, in a statement. Bellucci filed a similar lawsuit last year to strike down a Simi Valley ordinance that also required people convicted of sex crimes to post a sign. That law also banned them from putting up Halloween displays and outside lighting on Oct. 31. A day before the Simi Valley law went into effect, Federal Judge Perry Anderson issued a temporary restraining order barring the city from enforcing the sign provision. However, the judge let stand provisions of the ordinance that keep sex offenders from turning on outside lights, decorating their homes, andanswering their doors to trick-or-treaters. In Orange, no registered sex offenders have been cited since the ordinance was adopted, said City Atty. Wayne Winthers. There was no need for the group to file the lawsuit, he said, since the city had been in contact with Bellucci and anticipated bringing the issue up to the City Council later this month. I read the district courts ruling and I dont see any reason why the court would look at ours any differently, Winthers said.

The City will vote on Monday, October 7, and Orange County just two weeks later on Tuesday, October 22. Pending both the City and County approval of the stadium plan, Orlando would be able to enter into final negotiations with MLS to award an expansion team to Central Florida. Both votes will be open to the public. We are excited as we begin this final step of securing a downtown soccer stadium for the Central Florida area, said Orlando City President Phil Rawlins. We encourage all of our fans to call their commissioners to show their support in the upcoming weeks. The October 7 vote will occur at the City Hall Council Chambers in downtown Orlando (400 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801). People are encouraged to park in the garage behind City Hall and cross over the walkway bridge. Go through security and the Chambers will be around the corner on the right.

City of Orange's Halloween law for sex offenders challenged in court
Earning the Gold Award is no small task. It takes over a hundred hours, hard work and learning how to lead and delegate a group of people that the girl has identified as being as passionate about her cause as she is. Then the girl has to make sure that her project will continue to thrive after she has finish earning the award. Lucy Cervino was inspired by the courtyard at Rosary High School in Fullerton, where she played as a child. For her Gold Award, she took an undeveloped area in the upper portion of the campus and created a Reflection Garden, now known as the "St. Francis Garden". Including iron and wooden benches and over 150 plants, she has created a beautiful place where students can sit, reflect and socialize for years to come.

A City of Silver Bells, Orange Alerts, and Shrugs
The Orange Attorney in the seal is smaller than the grapes, said Councilman Ron Saylor, a resident since 1966. I mean, ... Ive made the comment that with the size of that strawberry, we ought to convert some of our parks over to growing strawberries. Saylor is not sure how the city will go about changing the seal hire a graphic designer, have a contest, involve school children but he predicted the city will have a new seal within five years. That would be fine with Joan LaFleur, a local historian who opposed changing Orange Citys name. LaFleur edited the history book, Our Story of Orange City, Florida, that recounted how the townspeople decided to call the place Blue Spring in 1876. But the postmaster, convinced his choice would draw more attention, put Orange City on the paperwork.

Orange Beach launches community alert system
New Yorkers and visitors were hit with that sort of double-barreled message yesterday, a day after the federal government raised the nation's terrorism alert status to the second-highest level, orange, a decidedly un-Christmasy color. In a city ablaze in holiday lights, the authorities said they had increased security at landmarks and houses of worship and in its transportation system. State troopers were placed on commuter trains. The police also stepped up truck searches at bridges and tunnels, and officials said they would also be making such stops in city streets. During the last Orange Attorney alert, the baseball season was young and the buds of May were opening. The announcement on Sunday of a heightened terror alert brought forth the usual responses: skepticism, resignation, fatalism, flippancy, even fear. It was also a reminder of the potential for danger. ''It was like the terrorists grabbed me by the lapels and said, 'We're still here,' '' Jay Whelan, 33, said of learning about the Orange Attorney alert from a Times Square news display on Sunday. ''My stomach dropped.'' But Mr.
