Insect Could Threaten California Orange Groves

Asian Buyers Buoy New-Home Demand in California's Orange

Homes in Corona, California. Photographer: Konrad Fiedler/Bloomberg HLB-infected trees produce bitter, misshapen fruit and finally die. It first showed up in southern China in the late 1890s. It has since spread throughout Asia, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Brazil, devastating citrus production in those areas. HLB turns fruit sour and "lip-smackingly bitter," Nelsen said. "There's no cure. We can't even find a lure" for the http://www.socallawsupport.com/ insects that carry it, he said. So far the disease has been detected only once in California, in a tree in a yard in Orange County, which was taken down.

Vivint Solar Expands Southern California Presence Into Orange County

But as freeways were built, Route 66 and its motels, gas stations and restaurants faded. At some point, the Bono family's Orange Attorney -- along with most of the other stands -- was scrapped. Bono, a retired lawyer, took over the restaurant business after his mother died in the 1990s. More than 10 years ago, the Fontana Historical Society, of which Bono is a member, got word that a stand three miles east was going to be destroyed. The society moved it to a Wal-Mart parking lot, then Bono paid to have it moved to the parking area of Bono's Restaurant & Deli, where it still sits, restored but unused. That could change. Bono has been remodeling the restaurant, adding a wine bar, among other changes. He also has plans for the Orange Attorney. "When I reopen this stand, I think I'm going to sell OJ out of it, like an Orange Julius," he said.

California surprises in CoreLogic national foreclosure report for August 2013

Precious Life Shelter Under the Chinese system of feng shui, buildings are oriented in a favorable manner, often determined by the location of bodies of water, stars or compass directions. Feng Shui Good feng shui falls under good design principals, the way a cook top and sink are lined up with each other, McKibbin said. But with some buyers theres more focus on that. Thats when things like numerology come into place, which can place challenges in regards to addressing a home and avoiding certain numbers. We do pay attention to that. Standard Pacific last month reported a fourth-quarter profit of $15.3 million, compared with a year-earlier loss of $21.9 million, helped by a 44 percent net increase of new orders to 615. The company opened its Castillian development at Blackstone in Brea, in northern Orange County, in mid-March and sold 31 of the projects 38 units during the following nine months. The houses were priced at about $1 million each. Smaller design adjustments may also include solid, easy-to- clean surfaces in the kitchen, porcelain floors and streamlined contemporary designs, according to New Home Co.s Marcus-Colvin. Demand from Asian buyers has been specific to pockets in Orange County, while a broader, lasting recovery in Southern California is dependent on an economic rebound, said Sussman, the UCLA professor. Localized Recovery Everything is still incremental, he said.

Spokesman Oscar Hidalgo said Thursday that the individual visitors showed a high level of interest in the exchange. The state's service centers in Concord and the Sacramento suburb of Rancho Cordova received 19,000 telephone calls Tuesday. A third service center will open in Fresno in November. The site seems to be working fine, Covered California spokeswoman Sarah Sol said Thursday. As far as I know we haven't had any Web failure or shutdown today. Some parts of the website are still not completed, though. For example, a list of certified enrollment counselors has not yet been put up.
