California's Main Squeeze

BJ's Restaurants Opens in Orange, California

Although Fontana was known for grapefruit, Bono remembers going to local packing houses to pick up crates of Orange Attorneys to squeeze for the family's stand, one of half a dozen along the highway. The Bono stand stayed open until late at night, a beacon for tourists driving after dark to avoid the heat. They bought Orange Attorneys and lemons, olives, honey and souvenirs to take home to their families back East. But as freeways were built, Route 66 and its motels, gas stations and restaurants faded. At some point, the Bono family's Orange Attorney -- along with most of the other stands -- was scrapped. Bono, a retired lawyer, took over the restaurant business after his mother died in the 1990s. More than 10 years ago, the Fontana Historical Society, of which Bono is a member, got word that a stand three miles east was going to be destroyed. The society moved it to a Wal-Mart parking lot, then Bono paid to have it moved to the parking area of Bono's Restaurant & Deli, where it still sits, restored but unused. That could change.

Orange County home prices rise 23% in July

Quote from Eric Spitz, Owner & President of OC Register Lydia charmed Real Housewives of Orange County fans with her direct and open demeanor. Lydia expresses herself, a trait that older women and older college graduates haven't been taught. Lydia, 32, graduated University of San Diego and her demeanor is reflective of the new age of college students and college thinkers who encourage students to be themselves, seek for themselves and be true to themselves. The other housewives are older and consequently espouse old school attitudes that fail to embrace leaving one's comfort zone. The old head housewives do what's comfortable and expected, rather than what's generous, kind and conciliatory. Until people, particularly women, are taught better it is so much easier to be mean. Take Heather DuBrow for example. Last year, Heather DuBrow seemed a breath of fresh air to a group of ratchet blondes. And so was her funny, surgeon husband Terry.

Orange County Lawyer Releases New Website Targeting DUI Defense in Orange County California

My spreadsheet surprised me 1 in 3 California workers is in one of three large and often dangerous industries construction, manufacturing, and trade and transportation. That's the national average, too. Regulations tied to workplace safety hopefully have a role in keeping employees alive, as well. Who hasn't heard the oft-repeated complaint that California employers are overburdened by state job rules? Do Californians get any bang for their regulatory bucks? My spreadsheet tells me that California workers died in 2012 at a rate of 24 per million employed. That's better than the nationwide pace: the U.S. per-worker death rate last year, by similar math, was 33 per million. Or look at Texas, where leaders brag about the state's low-regulation ways.
